Revitalization: The Billion Dollar Adviser
Bruce Katz, Vice President of the Brookings Institute came to speak in Buffalo back in March. Thankfully, WBFO was there to record his speech. This is a must-listen for anybody interested in the revitalization of Buffalo and the “Buffalo billion” that is promised by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Katz has been personally selected by Cuomo to help advise through the process of distributing the large amount of money.
In case you did not know what the Brookings Institute is, it’s one of the oldest think tanks in the United States based out of Washington, D.C. Katz is an educated man with plenty of data regarding the Buffalo-Niagara region citing several statistics in his speech. He said the region is the 50th largest metropolitan area in the United States (and we should be proud of it). He advises Buffalo to invest in sustainable technology, which we’re already ranked 37th in the country. Katz exclaims how the Buffalo-Niagara region was into clean energy before it was popular, citing Tesla’s Niagara Falls generator that electrified the world. Bruce Katz believes that Buffalo can “lead the next economic wave, one driven by advanced manufacturing, innovation and exports powered by low carbon.” He says to use pragmatic caucus which places: 1. place over party, 2. collaboration over conflict, and 3. evidence over dogma. Logical reasoning and working together sounds like the right philosophy for the new Buffalo.
