Revitalization: Massachusetts and Busti
This is the corner of where the future Peace Bridge plaza will begin. In the photograph is a boarded up building with a broken window sadly awaiting its demolition. The structure is representative of the entire block as all the edifices were purchased by the city for the purpose of the plaza expansion.
Initially opposing the plaza expansion it has now been endorsed by Niagara Council Member David A. Rivera who explains that demolishing 8 buildings is better than the original plan of taking over 80 homes with the environmental benefit of moving traffic faster across the heavily accessed bridge. The Clean Air Coalition is concerned about the high rates of asthma in the area while Rivera feels this is being addressed. Rivera suggests the Peace Bridge Authority put forth a clean and environmentally friendly solution to set a national standard.
