Chuck Banas on Suburban Sprawl

Chuck Banas has been a primordial force in the efforts of restructuring Buffalo for success by tackling the dry and dated zoning code. The problem, Banas most saliently argues, is the large addition of urban areas without an increase in population (displayed by both graphs above provided by Banas). The result of Banas’ effort has been Buffalo’s lauded Green Code in which Mayor Brown has called the city’s “development DNA.” This year Banas spoke at the TEDx event in Buffalo excited that the new form-based and transect-based code (visual/design-based code) will allow Buffalo an advantage over most other cities conventional (outdated) code.
