The Front Yard at Burchfield Penney
Backdropped by Buffalo State College, Delaware Park, and the soon-to-be-re-opened Richardson Complex this idyllic stretch of Elmwood along the Scajaquada is the city’s most prominent art center. While the Albright-Knox Art Gallery has public outdoor exhibits the Burchfield Penney Art Center, right across the street, only has had indoor exhibits- that is until this Fall.
On September 12th, the BPAC front yard wall will become a projection surface for “the world’s first permanent, environmentally-responsive, outdoor audio and video environment.” The system is said to record the weather surrounding the building and display meteorological complementary art against the wall in the form of audio and video. With Buffalo’s 4 distinct seasons the system will certainly display a wide variety of art. Illumination projects continue to become more prevalent within the city.
